A world without favor

Who: Khemrys, Deputy McKinnon
When: The day after Jason marks her.
What: A man gets pissy!

She was blending medicines the day after her marking, smiling each time she touched her bandaging. It was akin to be wedded in this world yes? Taken, claimed, and no other might challenge...

...right?

She was humming to herself a she worked when the bell rang. No ill intent, and yet...here was Deputy McKinnon in his pressed uniform, chest puffed and full of himself. He was tiring, honestly, but a customer none the less. "Welcome lord."

"Khemrys," he smiled, leaning on the counter, "you were away, I missed you..."

"Aye, issues at home," she admitted, stilling her work to watch the man. "But here I return. It is home."

He smiled, an oily, stretched expression, "I'm glad you're back. That dike is no substitute for you, or that fucking vamp..."

"Pardon?" she blinked.

"That guy at night, or the lesbian manager..."

She sighed, "you speak of my lord Requiem and lady Beryl?" the only others who might man the counter?

"Yeah, those guys," he snorted. "They're not you. You're...you."

"...ah?"

"You...run things better," he winced. "Knowledgeable and all."

"Thank you Deputy," she smiled, assembling his normal purchase by rote.

"Listen..."

She blinked, shifting her gaze to him, "I always do lord."

"Ah, of course. Anyway, that guy...he wasn't...true when you were away," he sighed. "And...wait. Are you hurt?"

She blinked, reaching up to touch the bandage, "no. I am well content, and my lord Jason was more than true in my absence, he was distraught..."

"Not that anyone saw! He tempted women and took them privately you know..."

She blinked, fingers stroking the tape edges, "no. He did not."

"He did. It's his nature," the man sneered. "Did he hurt you?"

She laughed, "no, I decided on a mark. A tattoo I believe it is called?" The man's gaze made her itch honestly, though he smelled...neutral still but...

"I don't believe you," he growled.

What? She bared her teeth in the semblance of a smiled, his total displayed on the register, "be that as it may, I have chosen such a pattern to feel settled in my life here. You are a bold thing to call me liar." To say the least.

"If I took that bandage away what would I see?" Deputy McKinnon sneered.

"Bloody marks," she noted serenely. "As such takes time to heal. And more you'd no right to snatch such. Do you enter my shop with ill intent?"

The man grimaced, looked at the counter for a long while, "...no? I enjoy...shopping here."

"And well you should. We offer quality after all," she smiled, offering his normal package of goods toward him. "My thanks for your patronage."

"Khemrys..."

"Thank you for shopping," she smiled.
