Fire fire, burning bright...

Who: Khemrys and Lord Janus
When: Not long after he's been freed.
What: A feral kitty and a man with two sets of memories are in the wastes...

Her knees were boney, thin and sharp against the bottom of her chin. Still, they were hers and she hadn't rested her chin on her knees in some time. A part of her screamed that a fire was trouble, it was just begging the Hunter to find her but...

...but she hadn't seen the Hunter since this man faced him. She wasn't certain if she had traded one nightmare for another by breaking him from the reverie. Had he been happy, perhaps? Content even though that world was long since past and the people in it draining him to live?

Had they done it on purpose or were they, too, caught?

She...wasn't certain how to ask.

The tunic and cloak she had stolen from his people had stayed solid and real despite the land fading away when Janus awoke. She huddle now in that, watching the stranger from across their little fire. They hadn't spoken at all since she pulled him from the desperate dream. How could she breach a quiet that she could only think of as mourning?

Why hadn't she left him?

He was free and as safe as such as he might be now. He was free and the debt repaid in kind; a life for a life. She could have left him, a cat ghosting away into the night to run once more and yet she hadn't.

Perhaps even yet she was a touch too human to leave someone who seemed so lost.

Perhaps.

So how did one break such silence as bled between them? Well, as Dame Rimia might say, one did it as simply, and painlessly as possible. It was no kindness to anyone to let such tension rise. "Thank you," she offered at last, voice thin and unused to speech after so long silent.

Just that.

Thank you.

What else was there when she had fled from the Hunter for so long?
