Bright future my ass

Who: Beryl, Lani, a bar
When: Eh? Start of this AU?
What: New kids in town!

Beryl sighed and pulled out the damn shipping list again; this was nearing the end of her week of 'probation' as a new hire bartender but something just wasn't sitting right. Yeah, they were down more bottles than they should be and that was a bitch, because it put her in a tight spot. Rat to the owner over missing bottles and risk her and Lani's new jobs or...

...probably get blamed for it and fired if she didn't report it.

They'd just gotten an apartment, it wasn't the Hilton or anything but it was so much better than a leaky tent at the state park nearby, and damned if their new landlord hadn't been critical as hell of 'people who do that kind of work' but even more critical of those that 'lost their jobs and asked fer extensions', so she figured if they bit it here they'd be back in a tent.

Great choices.

"Your head's going to explode gem-girl," Lani sighed, leaning on the bar to pat her head. "You can't be doing quantum physics back there or anything so why the look?"

"I'm debating risking our jobs Lani, it should be a hard decision!"

"Ouch," he wilted, "really?"

"Eh, someone's stealing stock. And I'm baby bartender fish."

Right. Lani sighed nodding, "gotcha. Tell the boss. You go, I go, someone will hire us again okay?" He was nineteen, and a shifter, but she wasn't!

"Kid, you always know the right thing to say," she sighed, stopping to kiss his forehead. "And Bouncer boy and I will keep an eye on your table after that bitch last night okay? Go get changed, we get fired I'll yell you out of the back!"

"Have I mentioned, again, it's weird my older cuz has to defend my virtue at a tabletop club?" he laughed.

"Only a hundred times. You want to go home with a someone and tell me three times properly I'll not defend that night, but that bitch last night was off her meds or something." She loved him yes, but she wasn't going to stop him from having some kind of fun or love life if he wanted! As long as he was sensible about it and assured her things were voluntary!

"Same to you," he grinned. "I saw you getting tips for eing the hot bartender last night..." he winked.

"I was getting tips because I don't water when people are decent," she snorted, "shoo."

"Oh it has nothing to do with the mesh shirt at alllllll!" he laughed as he scooted back to the staff room.

"Sure," she shook her head, grabbed the paperwork, and headed to the back.

Thankfully for their jobs, well, the boss grinned when she turned it over with the cool explanation. "Well, I think we can call your probation ended girl, I brought you in to replace someone who was stealing, now I know I can."

Ah.

Well, that was a different kind of trouble than she'd expected. Okay then. "Well, glad that's a thing I guess. I was ready to get stuck in the he said she said thing."

"Nah, I try to keep drama to a minimum," he snorted. "But it means starting tomorrow I need you full schedule."

"If you have overtime I'll take it," she noted back instantly. How not?

"Good, I'll show you the adjusted schedule at close tonight."

And she'd be...making sure to park their car close to the back door and get escorts out when Lani wasn't with her in case whoever was getting fired today took...exception to the fact.

Yup.

Fun times.
