A quiet moment

Who: Khemrys, Gunnora
When: A few days after breaking the triumvirate.
What: Company for tea!

Khemrys unlocked the shop door and stretched slowly, feeling the grumpy pull of her mark now several days settled into a proper wound as she wiggled. She did adore these early mornings; winter was slightly different in this city than in the lands she knew, snow and ice upon the sidewalk that she had tossed salts upon and wreathing above that concrete a grey and a misty fog that made her glad to sip her morning brew yes.

For all this week had been chaotic and unsettled she felt content. Her lord was home most eves to sleep against, she was claimed, and she had chosen family under a single roof as a holding...

...her life alone was doing well in a sea of turmoil that many believed her to cause. Was it wrong to feel at peace wit that?

"No," the warm voice laughed softly from the stool at the counter. "We build what homes we may, Khemrys."

She blinked, glancing toward the counter then curtsying deeply, "welcome of the hearth Lady."

The woman was barely visible under a deep, hooded cape, but the milky skin akin to Khemrys's slowly swam to golden, through rosy and to dark as Beryl when wasn't looking. Gunnora embodied many, just as the lock of hair one might glimpse shifted from golden, to green, and onward to a midnight curl, "for the feasting of the board my thanks."

She smiled and rose, already moving to fill a pot and let it steep so she might serve them...both. "These lands are strange but warm beneath the snows."

"Aye," Gunnora smiled. "Sleeping though the Powers here are, you are reminding the realm of what it might be awake. It eases my ability to walk here."

Khemrys shook her head, denying such, "I but aid and heal Lady, as I am able, ever. There was illness here beyond bodies..."

Gunnora chuckled, the voice sliding smoothly through tones, "where you walk here you bring ease my Khemrys. I stand in the shadow of your every word and the edge of your works to taste the Need in these lands."

"...there is much need," she admitted quietly, watching the tea she poured for them both rather than the woman before her.

"Aye. And we will discuss such in time. I am old, Khemrys, and my vision long. I have seen echoes of a world akin to this in the world walkers wake. I am old, but I am also young and may aid more than stand in the world you left."

"This world will be the stronger for your aid," Khemrys agreed with a smile.

"And yours," she laughed, the tones holding the whisper of wind over a wheat field at harvest now as she drank her tea. "And yours. We build, Lady Khemrys. We walk the lands and remind people of softer things."

Khemrys fiddled with her cup, sighing, "I...many here find me...frightening. I try to explain but..."

"And yet you have built a home, true and solid," Gunnora smiled, reaching forward to touch her cheek. "I feel at peace here."

"A home..." Khemrys drew a deep breath and tried to smile, glancing up at the ceiling as she heard Jason moving around up there. "I have a chosen lord..."

"Aye," The mouth under the edge of that hood (thin lipped, now full, now dark, now chapped) smiled as the hood turned toward the stairs to observe this chosen one descend the stairs. "He has growing yet, but all the young do. Hardships ahead but also true happiness. My blessings, Khemrys. Twins I'd think..." she laughed, toasting Jason with the last sip of her tea before she was simply gone, leaving behind only the scent of sun warmed wheat sheaves and fruit heavy on the vine.

Khemrys gasped softly at those last words, hiding her face in her hands. Hopefully Jason hadn't caught that?
